Federico Chiesa’s summer move to Liverpool was one of the more surprising deals of the window, yet fans have had to be patient in seeing the Italian international.
The former Juventus superstar has hardly featured for Liverpool this season, with Chiesa making just three appearances in all competitions with the winger struggling with injuries having faced numerous physical problems over the years.
With Chiesa close to returning for Liverpool, though, the wait could soon be over this December, with the Italian winger likely to feature for the Reds this month and to provide vital cover in the attack for the likes of Mohamed Salah.
Yet Chiesa was absent from training today for Liverpool, but the reason should not put fans on alert.

Chiesa absent from Liverpool training due to illness
According to David Lynch, Chiesa was absent from Liverpool training today due to an illness, with the journalist posting: “No Federico Chiesa for today’s session. It’s my understanding he is absent through illness.”
With Liverpool facing Girona tomorrow in the UEFA Champions League, Chiesa missing out will feel like a huge blow for the 26-year-old attacker, who would have felt confident in getting some minutes against the ninth-place La Liga side.

Chiesa is not the only player out through injury, with Alisson Becker’s recovery taking longer than expected for Liverpool with Diogo Jota also suffering from a lingering problem that’s kept the Portuguese international out of action for some time.
Indeed, Chiesa’s latest setback could rule the winger out for tomorrow’s clash against Girona, yet with more fixtures coming up this month, there’s a real chance that the Italian international could be back in action for Liverpool in the upcoming games.

Who do Liverpool play against this month?
Having already played Manchester City and Newcastle United, Liverpool have overcome two of their biggest tests already this December, with the Reds’ away trip to Everton postponed due to adverse weather on Saturday.
Nevertheless, Liverpool still have a stacked December schedule that features some big ties both in Europe and in the Premier League, with Tottenham and West Ham the notable domestic games for the Reds.
Indeed, Liverpool will want to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League and Champions League this month, and Chiesa’s return this month will be huge in the Anfield side doing just that.
