UEFA have confirmed an all-French team of match officials to oversee proceedings between Juventus and Manchester City in the Champions League this week.
Pep Guardiola and his players will be desperate to get their European campaign back on track following two hugely disappointing results across the last two matchdays in the league phase of the competition.
Manchester City, despite taking the lead in the game, were crushed in a remarkable second-half performance by Sporting CP last month in their final European clash under Ruben Amorim, losing 4-1 in the Portuguese capital.
A chance for redemption came when Feyenoord visited the Etihad Stadium, and having led the game 3-0 with just 15 minutes remaining, it seemed as though the three points were secure. However, a fragile defence conceded three in quick succession to share the spoils.
As for Juventus, they find themselves with an identical record to City sitting two places beneath Guardiola’s side on eight points in 19th position. The Italian giants have endured a tough run of their own so far drawing their last two and losing prior to those outings.
A 0-1 home defeat at the hands of Stuttgart in Turin was followed up by a 1-1 draw away to Lille of France, before the last matchday saw the Italian club held by Aston Villa in England after a late-winning goal from the hosts was ruled out.
Now, ahead of the meeting between Juventus and Manchester City, European football’s governing body UEFA have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Allianz Stadium!
Match Referee
As confirmed by UEFA this week, France’s Clément Turpin will take on the role of lead on-field match referee between Juventus and Manchester City, in what will be his fourth Champions League outing of the campaign including qualifying.
Across all competitions so far this season, Turpin has overseen a total of 16 matches including refereeing performances in the UEFA Nations League, Ligue 1, Ligue 2, UAE Pro League, and Saudi Super Cup.
City are yet to fall to defeat in a match officiated by the 42-year-old match official, defeating Borussia Monchengladbach 1-2 in the group stage of the 2015/16 Champions League, and FC Schalke 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the last-16 second-leg in the 2018/19 campaign.
The last game to be overseen by the Frenchman involving Manchester City came during their run to their final success in Istanbul, and a 1-1 draw away to Bayern Munich to seal a place in the semi-final stage of the competition were Real Madrid would await.
Assistant Referees
Accompanying Clément Turpin on the field at the Allianz Stadium this week will be fellow French officials in Nicolas Danos and Erwan Finjean, taking on the roles of assistant referees for the contest.
Video Assistant Referees
As for the roles of VAR for this week’s European heavyweight clash, UEFA have confirmed that Willy Delajod will take on the role of Video Assistant Referee, and Benoît Millot in the position of Assistant Video Assistant Referee.
Fourth Official
As for the role of fourth official and overseeing matters between the two dugouts led by Thiago Motta and Pep Guardiola, UEFA have confirmed that Mathieu Vernice will complete an all-French team of match officials for Wednesday night’s contest.
