'Quality': Chris Wood thinks £25m Nottingham Forest star was unbelievable vs Manchester United

Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday to claim a maiden win at the Theatre of Dreams in 30 years.

The Reds hadn’t won at that particular stadium since Stan Collymore was strutting his stuff and he enjoyed the latest Forest victory.

Jamie Redknapp hailed Nuno Espirito Santo for his work in preparing Forest to cause a shock at Old Trafford and the Reds are fifth in the Premier League table now.

Clearly, the Forest head coach will want his team to keep pushing forwards and with some big games on the horizon, nothing has been achieved just yet.

Still, it’s been an amazing start to the season so far and Forest have already exceeded any pre-season expectations.

Chris Wood hails Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

The Reds won courtesy of goals from Nikola Milenkovic, Gibbs-White and Wood, with United unable to find a second equaliser during the contest.

Wood was praised by Espirito Santo after the game but the striker actually reserved his praise for Gibbs-White after the game.

MORE FOREST STORIES

The 33-year-old had a birthday to remember on Saturday and he clearly enjoys playing alongside Gibbs-White in the Forest team.

He told BBC Sport: “Morgs has put in a fantastic delivery, he’s got quality the boy, it’s just about finding areas to cause confusion.”

Gibbs-White in numbers vs Manchester United

The hope will be that this outing can prove to be a catalyst for better things for Gibbs-White as he looks to get going this season.

He will know that his goals and assists tallies are good enough this season and he added one of each at United on Saturday.

It’s always a satisfying thing to see when Gibbs-White is smiling on a football pitch and long may it continue.

Gibbs-White was a £25 million signing from Wolves in the summer of 2022 and on Saturday, Who Scored named him the Man of the Match.

He had 49 touches of the ball and completed 61% of the 31 passes that he attempted during his 78 minutes on the pitch.

Gibbs-White made one key pass during the outing but using the eye test, he was far more vibrant and thoroughly deserved his goal and assist from the game.

There is still more to come from the England international and hopefully, the Old Trafford clash can be the moment when the corner was turned for Gibbs-White.
