Tottenham Hotspur are not planning to make any knee-jerk reactions over the future of Ange Postecoglou, despite pressure building on the club’s head coach following a disappointing run of results.

Postecoglou faces scrutiny over a sequence of one victory in seven games – including Sunday’s 4-3 defeat by Chelsea – that has resulted in Spurs slipping into the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Telegraph Sport understands that Spurs are not planning to hit the panic button and are focused on doing everything in the club’s power to help Postecoglou and his players turn around the situation.

Tottenham have a crucial run of games before Christmas that involves travelling to Rangers in the Europa League, before a trip to Southampton in the Premier League, hosting Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and then facing Liverpool at home.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham’s position would change if those games do not go to plan, but Postecoglou retains support internally and there is belief that the team’s results can quickly improve.

Postecoglou clashed with travelling fans at the end of last week’s defeat to Bournemouth, but the home crowd sang his name before the defeat by Chelsea in which Spurs took a two-goal lead.

There was also no chanting against Daniel Levy, the chairman, who was in the stands for the Chelsea game and has previously spoken of his admiration for Postecoglou and his work.

While recent results have been a disappointment, there is recognition that Postecoglou’s progress has been affected by an unfortunate run of injuries to key players, many of whom have been in the same position such as central defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Postecoglou has already held transfer meetings with Johan Lange, the Tottenham technical director, with the January window approaching and the club considering making reinforcements.
