Owen Hargreaves has claimed that Ruben Amorim only has one ‘undroppable’ at Manchester United after five games.
Manchester United have experienced mixed results since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach last month.
Under the Portuguese head coach, the Reds have recorded two wins, one draw, and two defeats in his first five matches in charge.
Although the start hasn’t been brilliant in terms of results, Amorim is using this period to evaluate his squad and determine which players align with his long-term system.
His regular squad rotation supports that point, but he will soon need to figure out his strongest team in order to get more points on the board.
However, changes in the team are likely to be expected a lot in the coming months. You would assume there will only be a handful of players who consistently start in the team.
Owen Hargreaves believes that the rotation, especially in the frontline, shows that Amorim is trying to figure out who works where in the new formation.
But the former United midfielder also suggests that Amad Diallo is the only attacker who can be considered ‘undroppable’ under the new head coach.
“At the top of the pitch he’s rotating. I think he’s trying to find who is going to fit in this formation,” Hargreaves said last week.
Then asked if Marcus Rashford is in Amorim’s strongest team, the ex-pro added: “I think he’s an option but none of the boys at the top of the pitch are undroppable outside of Amad maybe.”
The Ivorian winger has been deployed as a wingback under the new boss, demonstrating strong defensive capabilities while remaining a dangerous attacking threat.
The 22-year-old has contributed four assists in five games, despite starting the clashes against Arsenal and Bodø/Glimt as a substitute.
His standout performance came against Everton, where he provided two assists in a 4-0 victory and earned the Man of the Match award.
While he has excelled in the wingback position, many fans are hoping that he is eventually moved into one of the two positions in behind the striker.
