Liverpool find themselves in a precarious position with three of their most influential players – Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold – all entering the final 18 months of their contracts.
The situation has become increasingly urgent as the January transfer window approaches when all three players would be eligible to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs
The club has recently tabled formal contract offers to all three players.
However, early discussions have revealed potential complications, particularly with Van Dijk’s proposal reportedly falling short of his expectations.
Meanwhile, Salah’s negotiations have centered around contract length, with the Egyptian’s representatives initially seeking a three-year deal while the club preferred a one-year extension1
Liverpool’s approach to these negotiations is complicated by age factors. With Salah at 32 and Van Dijk at 33, FSG must carefully consider the length and value of any new deals.
Alexander-Arnold’s situation differs significantly, as the 25-year-old vice-captain enters his prime years, making his contract perhaps the most strategically important for Liverpool’s future5
The stakes are extraordinarily high for Liverpool, as losing any of these players on free transfers would represent a significant financial blow.
However, Alexis Mac Allister has already urged the club to commit all three to new terms at Anfield.
And in the same interview, the 25-year-old revealed whether he would be keen on a switch to La Liga.
What did Alexis Mac Allister say about La Liga?
Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Spanish outlet AS, Alexis Mac Allister was quizzed on whether he would be open to a move to Spain in the future.
He revealed that he could see himself in Iberia but also confirmed that he is ‘comfortable’ at Liverpool:
“Yes, why not? It is a country that I really like, and I have visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and culture it is very similar to Argentina,” he said via Sport Witness.
“Without a doubt, I would like to play in Spain one day. But today I am very comfortable at Liverpool.”
The Argentina international also briefly summarised the differences between Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp’s playstyle, highlighting that not too much has changed in that regard:
“We came from a long process with Jurgen, where the main ideas were already established,” Mac Allister explained.
“Basically, Arne Slot hasn’t come to change everything, but to add his methodology to what we have already been working on.”
“The biggest difference is patience when we have the ball. Now we have the ball more.”
