Liverpool travels to the Estadi Montilivi on Tuesday evening seeking to maintain their flawless Champions League campaign against competition debutants Girona.
The Reds, benefiting from an unexpected break after the Merseyside derby was postponed, arrive in Catalonia as the only team in the competition with a perfect record after five matches.
While Liverpool sit atop the 36-team table with 15 points, Girona’s European dream has turned into a nightmare. The Spanish side languishes in 30th position with just one victory from five matches
Their domestic form has also dipped significantly, highlighted by Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Real Madrid.
And while Liverpool enjoyed a break, it seems that they could still reinforce their travelling squad with academy players.
Six Liverpool academy players spotted in pre-Girona training
The likes of Jayden Danns, Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni, Amara Nallo, James Norris, and James McConnell have been spotted training at the AXA this morning.
Danns made a welcome injury return for Liverpool, coming on as a substitute in the under-21s’ 1-1 draw away to Reading on November 30, 2024.
There was speculation of a loan switch to Plymouth during the summer before the striker picked up a stress fracture in his back.
Ngumoha has been a standout talent in Liverpool’s academy since his arrival. He is noted for his versatility as a left-sided forward and has already made an impression in training with the first team.
Meanwhile, Trey Nyoni has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool FC this season, which will run until 2027. He has made significant strides since joining from Leicester City last summer, including making his senior debut in the FA Cup in 2023/24.
Recently, he also had a successful international break with England’s Under-18s.
Amaro Nallo was named in the matchday squad for the Reds’ trip to Newcastle, marking his third involvement with the first team, following two previous appearances as an unused substitute.
Meanwhile, James McConnell will want to continue the momentum after his breakout 2023/24 season, with the start of this campaign disrupted by an ankle injury
