FC Barcelona’s midfield of Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, and Keira Walsh is included. Finally, in the forwards category, aside from Caicedo, there are NWSL champions Marta and Barbra Banda of Orlando Pride, with Chelsea’s Lauren James.
How does the voting work?
Players from 70 countries are first invited to pick their top three in each category: goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and forward. The Women’s World 11 vote is based on performances from August 21st, 2023 - August 10th, 2024, with an additional condition that the player had to feature in at least 20 matches in this period. The players who received the most votes make it into the World 11:
1 goalkeeper
3 defenders
3 midfielders
3 forwards
Lastly, the 11th spot is assigned to the player with the next highest number of votes.
