49-year-old ex-Chelsea manager prefers West Ham job to another PL club, has attended recent…

Graham Potter would reporteldy prefer a switch to West Ham United over Wolves, with the former Chelsea boss linked with both jobs.

According to Football Insider, Graham Potter would be open to taking over from Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United. The 49-year-old former Chelsea manager is being linked with the Hammers job, while there are links to the Wolves role as well, as the Englishman has come in for high demand in a crucial period of managerial scrutiny.

Premier League clubs have shown a willingness to wait longer rather than sack managers in an instance. There are cases within the top flight that could have seen managers leave in previous seasons, but there is always a tipping point, which might see the likes of Wolves and West Ham United make key changes.

Incidentally, the two sides converge on Monday night in what could be a do-or-die clash for either set of managers. Wolves are second to bottom in the table after back-to-back losses against Bournemouth and Everton, which has made Gary O’Neil’s position untenable. The same goes for West Ham, where Julen Lopetegui is on the verge of losing his job, which may as well depend on the Wolves result on Monday.

The big candidate for either club is Graham Potter, with West Ham keen on the Englishman for some time, and his presence at the London Stadium has sparked further rumours. The 49-year-old former Chelsea manager was also linked with the Wolves job, but he prefers a switch to West Ham over his other options.

RB Leipzig were also linked, but it appears that Potter’s long wait for the perfect opportunity to manage again might be in the Premier League. Potter also had no interest in the Leicester City job before it was given to Ruud van Nistelrooy, as the Hammers job might be the next thing he wants to resume his managerial career after a considerable pause.

West Ham to decide on Julen Lopetegui’s future

Lopetegui is on thin ice, as the Hammers have already seen multiple links to many big-name managers in the market. Former Juventus man Massimiliano Allegri is also a contender, meaning Lopetegui will be judged on the next game, which indicentally is against Wolves on Monday night.

Should West Ham happen to win against Wolves, it might delay the inevitable and bring about a temporary stay order on Lopetegui’s sacking. Hence, only a concerted period of wins and positive results will be able to save the Spaniard’s job, as Potter continues to lurk around in the background as there is a possible air of change over at the London Stadium.
