Maltese-born Joe Glanville was just given Manchester United’s Ian Sterling Fan Award after a whopping over 55 years of support both on his home turf and abroad.
The award was presented to Joe at Old Trafford Stadium by former United defender Martin Buchan and wife of the late Ian Stirling, Lynn Stirling.
“It’s great, it’s really great, for the simple reason that I’ve been coming here for donkey’s years, I never expected this, you know? It’s something out of this world for me.”
The honourable award was created following the death of Ian Sterling, a dedicated Man United fan who passed away at the age of 57.
It was created with the intention of being presented to one fan who goes “above and beyond for the club, their community and the fanbase at large.”
“We have such fond memories, and I know Ian held you in such high esteem, Joe, we would be absolutely thrilled that you are the next recipient of this award, so congratulations,” Lynn Stirling expressed.
Glanville has been making his presence known in Old Trafford since the 1960s when he first visited, becoming a well known member and friend of the community.
“Joe is a great ambassador of Man United, not just in Malta but worldwide,” president of the supporters’ club Joe Tedesco said, “He’s well known by thousands of fans from all over the world, who’ve had the pleasure to know Joe… I think they made a good choice with choosing Joe.”
He’s also been a dedicated member of the Manchester United Supporters’ Club in Malta, whom he credited, alongside the international supporters, for showing nothing but love towards him.
Congratulations to Joe for his continued impacts in such an adoring community.
