Aston Villa could look to sign a Chelsea midfielder in January.

Aston Villa got back to winning ways at the weekend after a poor run of form - Unai Emery’s men picked up a crucial 1-0 win over Southampton at Villa Park. In the meantime, let’s take a look at all the biggest transfer rumours from today.

Villa could look to sign a Chelsea midfielder who has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge but it is not known how much the Blues will ask for, though. Meanwhile, a young Villa star, who is currently out on loan, could be recalled next month so he can be loaned out to a club who are currently playing in the Championship.

Aston Villa could make move for Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Chelsea player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has not made much of an impression ever since he arrived at the club from Leicester City in the summer transfer window. This season, the former Fox has made just five Premier League appearances for the Blues, failing to score a single goal or notch up a solitary assist. As such, Chelsea could already be looking to cut their losses on the 26 year old - and Aston Villa have seemingly thrown their hat into the ring as a potential suitor.

According to a report from Football Insider, the Villans are ‘among’ the clubs who are looking to snap up Dewsbury-Hall’s signature in the coming weeks. It is unclear how much they will be required to pay to bring him on board - nevertheless, it is unlikely that they will need to match the £30 million figure that Chelsea shelled out in order to sign him from Leicester. Dewsbury-Hall has potential in the Premier League - not only is he still a couple of years away from his physical prime, he also proved he can provide energy and intelligent passing from midfield during his time at the King Power Stadium.

Middlesbrough to submit offer for Louie Barry

Villa loan star Louie Barry has been a gem for Stockport County this season - so far in 2024/25, the 21 year old has scored 14 goals and has notched up a single assist over the course of 19 League One games.

Clearly, Barry’s ceiling is much higher than the third tier - as such, he is likely to be recalled by the Villans in January so he can be tested in the Championship. One of the ‘front runners’ for Barry’s signature next month are Middlesbrough - Michael Carrick’s men have been one of the top clubs in the Championship this season, as they current stand fifth in the league table.

This is according to a post on X (formerly Twitter) from journalist Darren Witcoop, who wrote: “Expect Louie Barry to leave Stockport to play in the Championship come January. Aston Villa deciding the right club with Middlesbrough front runners for the forward.”

Boro are not the only club in the second tier who are looking to take Barry on loan in January - Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County are also thought to be interested. As things stand, Barry’s next destination remains unclear.
