Revealed: Manchester City and Real Madrid dominate 2024 Fifpro Men’s World Xi

Two of Europe’s premier clubs have dominated the final selection for the 2024 FIFPRO Men’s World XI, it has been revealed.

FIFPRO annually invites all professional men’s and women’s footballers from across the glove to compose their teams of the year, first starting in 2005 and going on to mark the very best of footballing talent since.

From the 2024 edition onwards, FIFPRO confirmed that it would be independently managing the awards, reverting to its original name of the FIFPRO World 11 after issuing its accolades in association with FIFA over a 19-year period.

It is understood that approximately 70 affiliated players unions distribute unique links that give players from all professional football clubs access to a digital voting platform, eventually forming a collection of 11 players adjudged to have been the best over the last calendar year.

With their first inclusions in the FIFPRO World XI coming in 2007, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been named in the line-up the most times with 17 and 15 appearances respectively.

Aside from two of the best talents ever, the following make up the other top-10 highest appearance makers in the World XI: Sergio Ramos (11), Andres Iniesta (9), Dani Alves (8), Xavi, Luka Modric, Marcelo (6), John Terry, Iker Casillas (5).

The latest edition of the FIFPRO Men’s World XI has seen players from just three clubs dominate the line-up, with Manchester City and Real Madrid taking all but one slot in the selection voted for by over 28,000 players from across the globe.

It also succeeds a remarkable year for City in the 2023 edition of the XI, which comprised of the following names: Courtois; Stones, Dias, Walker; Bellingham, De Bruyne, Bernardo; Vinicius Jr, Mbappe, Haaland, Messi.

Now, following the official release on Monday afternoon of the latest and annual FIFPRO Men’s World XI, here is the completed selection as voted for by the players themselves from across the global game.
