It was another turbulent weekend for Manchester United after Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest was followed by the news Dan Ashworth had left the club.
Ashworth started work as sporting director in July and his stint at Old Trafford has been ended after just five months. The Manchester Evening News revealed shortly after Ashworth's exit that he recommended a move for Gareth Southgate and that he was not in favour of appointing Ruben Amorim as the club's new head coach.

Martinez on Amorim
Lisandro Martinez has praised the "intensity and energy" Ruben Amorim is trying to implement at United.
Amorim hasn't inspired the immediate turnaround in results that fans hoped for, but United's new head coach has brought in a new style of play and needs time to improve the team.
United lost 3-2 against Forest at the weekend and Amorim is learning which players he can depend on ahead of making much-needed changes at the end of the season.

Redknapp criticises Martinez
Jamie Redknapp criticised Martinez's defending in United's 3-2 home defeat to Forest.
Forest centre-back Nikola Milenkovic climbed over Martinez to give the visitors the lead inside two minutes. Despite goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes, United went on to lose their second successive game under Amorim.
"He’s got to be stronger Martinez, he’s like a little boy there, he just gets bullied. It’s a towering header," Redknapp said. Former United defender Phil Jones added: "First of all, it’s a great header. You sense a bit of vulnerability from set-pieces. Martinez is too fixated on his man.
