Everton shareholder Mike Parry gave his signed Wayne Rooney jersey to the fan who travelled from Australia to watch the Liverpool game on Saturday.

Due to the adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh, the Merseyside derby was called off on 7 December with it now set to be rescheduled for 2025.

The club were also made aware of the young fan, MacKenzie, who did not get to see his stars in action at Goodison Park.

Parry, who was praised for his gesture, responded on X: “Appreciate your kind words Louis.”

Parry’s gesture of giving his signed Rooney jersey to a young fan who travelled from Australia only to have the Merseyside Derby cancelled was indeed a class act.

This action not only highlights Parry’s personal generosity but also reflects positively on Everton as a whole.

It demonstrates the club’s deep care for their fans, especially those who show extraordinary dedication, like MacKenzie, who used his savings for the trip.

By acknowledging and rewarding such fan dedication, the Toffees underscore their commitment to community and supporter engagement beyond the pitch.

Hopefully, this gesture will be a precursor to further kindness, perhaps by inviting him back for the rescheduled match in 2025, ensuring his journey is not in vain and reinforcing the bond between the club and its global fanbase.

The club must look to further cement ties with the fans once the proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group goes ahead.
