Chris Paul made history on Sunday night, and he heard the thunderous applause and approval of loyal San Antonio Spurs fans.

Speaking to the press after the game, Paul said he was “grateful” to be playing for the team.

“San Antonio has been nothing short of amazing. The fans… The staff, the team,” Paul said via a video from ClutchPoints, while calling the Spurs “a first-class organization.”

This came shortly after Paul made NBA history and surpassed Jason Kidd for the second-most assists ever.

On Sunday night, Paul scored assist No. 12,092 and moved into second place behind John Stockton.

For the game, Paul scored six points, 10 assists, and two steals.

At 39 years old, Paul is one of the most respected and proven veterans in the league and has accomplished so much over his 19 years in the NBA.

He is a 12-time All-Star, a five-time assist champion, and a six-time steal champion too.

It is true that he’s never won a championship, but Paul has done so many great things since joining the NBA in 2005.

It was somewhat surprising to see him sign with the Spurs in the summer, but fans were excited to see what he could accomplish alongside Victor Wembanyama.

So far, the two have worked very well together and have pulled the team up higher in the Western Conference rankings.

Will it be enough to get them into the playoffs?

That isn’t entirely clear right now, but Paul is still playing with the same sort of expert basketball IQ that has made him a legend.

He loves playing in San Antonio, and the fans love seeing him make history there.
