A former Manchester United player has reacted to the “chaos” at Old Trafford after Dan Ashworth made a sudden exit from the Premier League club.
Dan Ashworth finally arrived at Old Trafford in the summer after Manchester United and Newcastle agreed to an out-of-court settlement over the sporting director.
The 53-year-old was placed on gardening leave while at Newcastle back in February after Ashworth had asked for his release from the club.
Ashworth was believed to be a key target for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos and the former Newcastle sporting director took up his role at Old Trafford in July.
The former United sporting director, who was previously technical director for West Brom and Brighton, had been widely hailed for his work at Newcastle.

Gordon Hill reacts to Ashworth’s Man Utd exit
Dan Ashworth’s tenure at Old Trafford lasted only five months before his time as Manchester United sporting director came to an end on Sunday.
According to The Athletic, Ashworth’s exit from United ‘was agreed’ during a meeting with Red Devils chief executive Omar Berrada.
MORE UNITED STORIES
The decision had come after United’s 3-2 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on the weekend.
The Athletic claimed that United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe played a ‘pivotal’ part in the decision to ‘part ways’ with Ashworth.
Former United and England player Gordon Hill took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and claimed that Ashworth’s exit “did not surprise” him.
“The chaos is still at Old Trafford; the Dan Ashworth stories are coming out. Well, well. Did not surprise me,” he wrote.
“He has cost the club a lot of money. What next?”

Man Utd confirmed Ashworth exit
The Athletic’s report suggested that Ashworth’s departure would ‘stun staff at United’ due to the figure’s ‘prominence in trying to reshape the club.’
Ratcliffe, who became co-owner of United in 2023, has already faced backlash after the Red Devils’ decision to raise matchday ticket prices.
United shared a brief statement suggesting that Ashworth’s departure from the Red Devils was a “mutual agreement” between both sides.
“Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as Sporting Director of Manchester United by mutual agreement,” reads the club’s statement, as per the Premier League’s official website.
“We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.”
