Liverpool could well face Everton in February with a date reportedly 'most likely' for the rescheduled Merseyside derby.
Last weekend, the Reds were supposed to kick-off the weekend of Premier League action at Goodison Park against rivals Everton, in what would be the final Merseyside derby at their rivals stadium before they move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
However, the game was postponed due to Storm Darragh, which led to the postponement of a number of other games across the Football League. As a result, Liverpool and Everton had the weekend off whilst the rest of the Premier League were in action.
There were some favorable results too for the Reds, who saw Arsenal drop points to Fulham in a 1-1 draw. Manchester City also dropped points by drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace whilst Chelsea came from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 to climb up to second in the Premier League, four points behind the Reds.
And now it has been revealed when the rescheduled Merseyside derby could take place. Due to a hectic schedule over the Christmas period, the game will have to take place in 2025. The first available midweek for the game to be played looks to be the week beginning February 17th.
With Liverpool looking a certainty to secure a spot in the top eight of the Champions League, they will likely not need to take part in the play-off round due to having automatically qualified for the round of 16, leaving a midweek spot free for the game to be played.
While both the Reds and Everton only have two Premier League fixtures in March, there is a two-week international break, as well as potentially a Carabao Cup final to deal with too which could prevent the rescheduled derby being played then.
Liverpool.com says: "With Chelsea having comeback to beat Spurs this past weekend, the Blues climbed to within four points of Liverpool who has a game in hand on Enzo Maresca's side. They will need to keep producing performances until they get to play their game in hand, which could both likely be a blessing and a curse. If the Reds do find themselves being caught by the chasing pack, they will know they just need to beat Everton to move clear of them - a team they should beat on paper.
"However, derby's are not played on paper. Everton will be well up for the game at Goodison with it being the final Merseyside derby they will play there and let's not forget, the Toffees beat Liverpool there last season 2-0 to effectively end the Reds Premier League title challenge."
