Barcelona will appeal Hansi Flick’s red card against Real Betis and hope the German coach can avoid a touchline ban.
Flick was sent off in the second half after Betis had been awarded a penalty for a challenge by Frenkie de Jong on Vitor Roque.
The Barca coach admitted after the game he was baffled by the decision, but is now facing a potential two-match touchline ban for his red card.
Barcelona will appeal because they agree with Flick that it was an unjust sending off and do not believe he spoke directly to match referee Munoz Ruiz, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalans are also eager for Flick to be on the touchline for their next two La Liga games against Leganes and Atletico Madrid.
Ruiz had claimed in his referee’s report that he showed Flick a red “for leaving the technical area shouting and gesticulating, protesting one of my decisions.”
It remains to be seen what will happen next for Flick and Barca but no-one will at all be surprised if the appeal fails and the boss is forced into the stands.
