Chelsea join Arsenal and PSG in battle to sign €70m-rated Premier League star: Reports

close

Chelsea have reportedly joined Arsenal and PSG in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha. The Brazilan has been at the Molineux since last summer.

Cunha, 25, has been in good form this season, registering seven goals and three assists in 15 games across competitions. All the goal contributions have come in 14 games in the Premier League, where Wolves are in the relegation zone, in 19th place, winning just twice in 14 outings, losing nine times.

Despite being contracted to the Molineux till 2027, Cunha has been the subject of interest of multiple top clubs from across the continent. As per Fichajes.net (via The Hard Tackle), the aforementioned trio are interested in his services.

Wolves have a €70 million valuation for Cunha, who could be on the move when the transfer window reopens in January. While the relegation-threatened side will look to keep the striker, their resolve will be tested if an offer beyond the aforementioned amount arrives from an interested party.

The Blues (31) and the Gunners (29) are second and third, respectively, in the Premier League - with Enzo Maresca's side trailing Liverpool by four points - having played a game more. Meanwhile, the Parisians are five points clear atop Ligue 1 after 14 matches.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have had decent starts to the season. While the Blues are on the rise under new boss Enzo Maresca, the Gunners have stuttered in recent weeks.

Arteta' side were held to a 1-1 Premier League draw at Fulham at the weekend. The dropped points put them two points behind their second-placed London rivals, who won 4-3 at Tottenham Hotspur.

Both clubs are in continental action this week. The Gunners host Monaco on Wednesday (December 12) on matchday six of the UEFA Champions League, where they are seventh in the standings. They have won three of their opening five games, trailing leaders Liverpool (15) by five points.

Meanwhile, the Blues travel to Astana in the UEFA Europa Conference League on the same day. Maresca's side are atop the standings, being one of two teams to win their opening four games, leading second-placed Legia Warsaw on goal difference.

Both the Gunners and the Blues then return to Premier League action next. While Arteta's side take on Everton at the Emirates on Sunday (December 15), Chelsea host Brentford on the same day.
