December was supposed to be a huge month for FSG.

Liverpool's owners have placed a special emphasis on their oldest acquisition, the Boston Red Sox.

It's the off-season in baseball, which is the equivalent of the summer transfer window in football.

With the Red Sox having struggled in recent years, FSG promised to ramp up their efforts in the free agency market in order to bolster the franchise's chances of getting back to their glory years.

However, they have seemingly suffered a catastrophic setback in their attempts to land one of baseball's most exciting talents at the moment.

FSG fail to land Juan Soto

One of the most sought after talents this month was Juan Soto. The 26-year-old Dominican Republican outfielder enjoyed a brilliant campaign with the New York Yankees and caught the attention of most of the MLB with his individual performances last season.

He has since become a free agent ahead of the new baseball campaign and the Red Sox were one of the leading candidates in the race to lure him.

But the FSG owned franchise have failed in their attempts.

According to ESPN Soto has agreed to sign a deal with the New York Mets in an industry breaking record deal.

Soto has reportedly signed a 15 year deal with the Mets worth $765 million (close to £600m), more than the previous record deal held by the LA Doders' Shohei Ohtani, who became one of the first two-way players since Babe Ruth and won the World Series last year.

It's an unprecedented deal in US sports history with Soto set to earn more than LeBron James and Tom Brady have in their entire careers in the NBA and the NFL, respectively.

News of FSG's failure to land the equivalent of Kylian Mbappe in the baseball world will not be a surprise to Liverpool supporters. However, it's a huge blow for the Red Sox.

Soto could have been a transformational signing. Now the Red Sox are left scrambling in the free agency market to find good value for money.
