Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min offers himself to Barcelona
Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has not met expectations this season with his fitness record since August being a cause for concern, while his inefficiency in front of goal has also been questioned given just two strikes in 10 Premier League games. At 32, Spurs need to start planning for life after him but have triggered a contract extension for the player until 2026.
He has, however, kept the door open to departing north London for good next year having reportedly offered his services to La Liga leaders Barcelona, as per recent developments reported by TEAMtalk. Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is also said to be interested in his services, with the source also claiming that Son could walk out for free at the end of the campaign despite his short-term extension at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Barcelona’s secondary left winger, Ansu Fati, has not been able to leave his injury problems behind him, thereby leaving Hansi Flick without any suitable back-up for Raphinha. Son, in the twilight of his career, could be signed on a bargain to take up that role in Catalonia and his free agency would work well in Barca’s favour owing to their turbulent financial situation.

Tottenham would bid farewell to a forward that has served themselves well for a decade though next year might be the ideal time to part ways as his wage liability would be off the club’s books and they could be able to spend good money on landing a replacement. Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is reportedly on their radar, so the Brazilian’s transfer could be pursued with better intent if indeed Son were to depart for Barcelona, or even Manchester United for that matter.

It will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana are considering the player’s offer, though they could offer the player a chance to add some silverware to his repertoire following some underwhelming seasons at Tottenham. Likewise, Man United may also be enticed by the South Korean’s experience but it remains to be seen if Son will be open to joining another English side.
