Although many associate the Golden State Warriors with explosive scoring and outlandishly efficient 3-point shooting, their defense plays a significant role in their 14-9 record. On Sunday evening, the Warriors beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 114-106, shutting down Anthony Edwards in the fourth quarter. One shining statistic told the story of how the Warriors outlasted the Timberwolves star.
Golden State entered the fourth quarter against the Timberwolves up 93-90. Although the Warriors had the narrow lead, history wasn't on their side.
Until this point, Minnesota experienced a spike in production, winning four consecutive games. However, for as much fire as the Timberwolves exhausted at their opponents, the Warriors had enough water to diffuse their hot streak.
As one of the hottest stars in the NBA, at least regarding popularity, the on-court product hasn't matched the pop-culture impact. Edwards began the fourth quarter with an efficient 9 for 12 line from the field. However, the Warriors' defense threw cold water on the young star's hot shooting stretch.

Edwards recorded a costly 1 for 7 mark from the field and converted only 1 of 4 3-point shots.
The Warriors' defense approached Edwards with the all-hands-on-deck strategy. Multiple defenders had their chance at guarding Edwards. Draymond Green, Gary Payton II, and Lindy Waters III contributed to Edwards' inefficient final period.
While Stephen Curry and Buddy Hield warrant praise for their hot shooting, especially the combined 12 for 24 3-point shooting line, defense ultimately saved the Warriors from their second consecutive loss to the Timberwolves.
