Struggling to secure regular playing time at Chelsea, defender Tosin Adarabioyo could be heading to West Ham United on a loan deal this January. The 27-year-old English centre-back, who joined the Blues on a free transfer just six months ago, is considering his options after finding first-team opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge.
The Hammers currently sit 14th in the Premier League table under Julen Lopetegui's guidance, with their defensive frailties becoming increasingly apparent. Having conceded 27 goals in 14 matches, the team's backline needs reinforcement despite bringing in Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka during the summer transfer window.
With Todibo sidelined due to injury, West Ham has identified Adarabioyo as a prime target according to Foot Mercato. The club values his Premier League experience and strong aerial ability, seeing him as a potential fix for their defensive struggles.
Life at Chelsea hasn't gone as planned for Adarabioyo since his move from Fulham. The defender has managed only three Premier League starts, finding himself behind established names like Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, BenoƮt Badiashile, and Axel Disasi in the pecking order. While he scored against FC Noah in the Europa Conference League, his impact has been minimal, spending nine league games watching from the sidelines.
Manager Enzo Maresca previously highlighted Adarabioyo's leadership qualities, but with his current contract running until 2028 and Chelsea possibly strengthening their defence next year, a temporary move seems logical for all parties.
The potential loan move offers clear advantages across the board. Adarabioyo would get the regular playing time he needs, West Ham would receive defensive reinforcement, and Chelsea could either boost the player's market value or welcome back a match-fit defender.
One significant challenge remains: West Ham already has two loan players - Jean-Clair Todibo and Carlos Soler. Premier League rules prevent clubs from having more than two loan players unless they either make one permanent or terminate an existing loan early. Despite this hurdle, West Ham maintains strong interest in bringing Adarabioyo to the London Stadium.
