Liverpool midfielder Höbinger ruled out for several weeks with groin injury

Liverpool midfielder Marie Höbinger has been ruled out of action for several weeks with a groin injury.

The Reds confirmed the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 23-year-old Austrian international midfielder was absent as Liverpool slipped to a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United at The Leigh Sports Village on Sunday and the club have now confirmed that the player will be sidelined for a number of weeks.

It has been reported that Höbinger sustained her injury whilst representing Austria in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 play-offs against Poland last week. The midfielder played 77 minutes of the second leg tie in Vienna before being replaced by Laura Feiersinger. Austria went on to miss out on qualification for the tournament finals after crashing to a 2-0 loss on aggregate.

Höbinger’s injury is a real blow for Liverpool who are struggling to replicate last season’s fourth-place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Matt Beard’s side have managed to collect just two wins for their opening nine league matches.

Liverpool contest a Merseyside derby with Everton in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday evening before ending the calendar year with a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at home to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
