Jermain Defoe has hailed Jadon Sancho's performance in Chelsea's 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as his best since he returned to England in 2021.

Sancho, 24, endured three disappointing seasons at Manchester United before moving to the Londoners on a season-long loan deal in August. The England international's switch to Stamford Bridge will be made permanent at the end of the season, with United inserting an obligation to buy in the deal.

After scoring against Southampton on Wednesday, Sancho got Chelsea back into the game in North London with a pin-point low-driven effort past Fraser Forster.

And Defoe believes Sancho's well-taken strike contributed to his best performance since returning to the Premier League in 2021.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Defoe said: "I thought he looked really sharp yesterday. It's almost like he's been playing with a handbrake [on], you'd see him too many times he'd receive it and it would go back and you're sort of like, 'Just go at people!'.

"But this is Jadon Sancho, 100 per cent. It's not an easy finish, to be honest, but from that angle, it's a really easy finish."

Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho if they finish 14th or higher in the Premier League, the Manchester Evening News understands
