Tottenham star Cristian Romero aims dig at Daniel Levy after Chelsea defeat

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has suggested that Daniel Levy is the reason the north Londoners are not competing with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Dominic Solanke gave the hosts an early lead before Dejan Kulusevski doubled their advantage in the 11th minute. Chelsea, however, turned the tide with Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez finding the net and Cole Palmer scoring two penalties.

Romero, who limped off in the early stages of the match, made some damning comments about Tottenham's hierarchy in the aftermath of the game.

As reported by talkSPORT, he suggested the lack of investment from Levy has prevented them from rivalling the Premier League's biggest hitters.

"The truth is, I would say no comment, but Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad," said Romero.

"If one doesn't do well, they strengthen again and now they're seeing results. Those are the things to imitate. You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully they [Tottenham's hierarchy] realise it.

"The last few years, it’s always the same. First, the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it's always the same people responsible.

"Hopefully, they realise who the true responsible ones are and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year."

It comes after Jamie Carragher urged Levy to hand over the reins to somebody who is capable of investing wisely and ending Tottenham's trophy drought.

"It's probably some time for somebody else to come in because to not win a trophy in that period of time, with the managers they've had," said Carragher on Sky Sports.

"They've never really got out of the way in the transfer market, they've spent decent money without, you know, blowing other teams out the water. The wage bill is always one of the smallest and you're never going to get the best players.

"It might be time for Daniel Levy, who I've been a supporter of because you look at the actual work that he's doing, but now that work's done, in terms of a stadium and a training ground, someone else needs to be in charge of this football club."
