After seeing their weekend Premier League fixture cancelled due to Storm Darragh, Liverpool will attempt to continue their brilliant UEFA Champions League start when they face Girona on Tuesday.

The game against the La Liga side is scheduled for a 5.45pm GMT kick-off on Tuesday, 10 December 2024.

Arne Slot’s side have been flying in all competitions. They sit top of the Premier League and Champions League tables.

Their position at the top of the table has come on the back of five wins in five Champions League games, including a 2-0 win over reigning La Liga and European champions Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Girona, who made their Champions League debut this season, have struggled for consistency so far.

They have won just once in Europe this season (DL), and come into this match on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Madrid at the weekend.

The weekend loss to Los Blancos served as Girona’s fourth-straight winless game (D1, L3). It was also the tenth defeat of the season in all competitions for Míchel’s men, which is already two more than they suffered throughout the entirety of the last campaign.

Form is certainly not on their side ahead of their first-ever meeting with Liverpool, who are unbeaten in their last 17 games (W15, D2) in all competitions.

However, Liverpool have struggled in their recent trips to Spain. The Reds have lost seven of their last ten away games to Spanish sides (W2, D1).

Still, the fact that Liverpool have won ten of their last 12 UCL away matches overall (L2) sets them up nicely ahead of this fixture.

Meanwhile, Liverpool coach Arne Slot hinted that he will not rotate his team for this clash.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, the Dutchman revealed that squad rotation will not inform his decision on who starts vs Girona.

“Now everyone is really fit because we skipped the game on Saturday, so there’s no reason to rotate from the last match,” he said.

“Maybe there’s a reason for the upcoming match but there’s also three days in between that one. So, we will start like all the other games we’ve started with – with a very good team tomorrow.”

Slot also spoke about Alisson Becker’s fitness, revealing that the Brazilian is ready to start tomorrow.

With Alexis Mac Allister missing the game due to suspension, Slot is expected to start the trio of Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield.

Harvey Elliot, who is among those that travelled to Spain, could also be given some minutes from the bench, having recently returned to full fitness.

Meanwhile, Slot could repeat his Luis Diaz experiment against Bayer Leverkusen after the Colombian scored a hat-trick when played as a NO. 9.

Predicted XI: Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai; Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo; Luis Diaz.
