Chelsea star makes Premier League title vow as Blues bid to pile pressure on Liverpool

Chelsea's Benoit Badiashile has put to rest any premature title talk, insisting the team won't consider such prospects until the season's end.

Despite being the surprise contenders this campaign and hot on the heels of league front-runners Liverpool, the Chelsea squad remain focused on each individual match.

Some have written off the Blues' challenge because of their porous defence but they are only four points behind Liverpool and have only lost to the Reds and Manchester City so far this season.

However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who has had a remarkable impact since stepping in at Stamford Bridge last summer, has a remarkably deep squad at his disposal.

After Chelsea's 4-3 win over Tottenham, which pushed them ahead of Arsenal, defender Badiashile played down their odds, saying: "It is too early to speak about this. We take it game after game."

Refusing to draw comparisons with Leicester's fairytale run to the 2015/16 title when the Foxes won it as underdogs, he added: "Leicester, I don’t know. We said at the end of the season but now, I cannot say we can win the title.

"I did not know the expectations at the beginning of the season. But when you are Chelsea you like to get at the top."

Although Maresca has crafted Chelsea into winners, their mettle will be tested with an arduous trek to Kazakhstan to face FC Astana in the Europa Conference League.

Despite some challenging decisions, the squad is evidently united behind the manager and Maresca's approach, with team morale high. Chelsea's consistency has likely been bolstered by their thrilling 4-3 victory over Spurs on Sunday.

Badiashile remarked: "We try to respect what the coach is asking us to do and at the moment, it is easy to score and play well so we are happy.

"The gaffer has tried to give us a good spirit. We try to improve day by day and at the moment we are good.

"To be able to achieve things you have to know each other. We try every training session to get to know each other better."
