Barcelona star leaving in January ‘cannot be ruled out’

La Liga giants Barcelona could part with an out-of-favour member of the club’s defensive ranks following the turn of the year.

That’s according to **[Diario Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/tres-partidos-decision-eric-garcia-112447878)**, who have on Monday provided a fresh update on the future of the 23-year-old.

Eric has for his part found game-time altogether difficult to come by in Catalunya’s capital over the course of recent weeks.

Despite having fully recovered from a niggling groin injury, the former Manchester City man has been afforded just eight minutes on the pitch since early-October.

As much comes amid an intense battle for places in both Barcelona’s backline, and at the base of Hansi Flick’s midfield.

With Jonathan Tah’s signing being [lined up](https://x.com/monfortcarlos/status/1865001877575802950) for next season, too, Eric is therefore considered as increasingly surplus to requirements by those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

As per a report from Sport, with Andreas Christensen closing on a return from injury, Eric could even be on the move as early as January.

A loan exit is not ruled out for the versatile stopper, with a permanent sale being lined up for the summer.
