WWE SmackDown has started December with a bang.
The 6th December 2024 edition of SmackDown marked this month’s first episode of the blue brand. Despite heavy competition from multiple other sports, such as college football games, and an NBA game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics, the Friday night show maintained its popularity.
As per Programming Insider, SmackDown 12/06 scored 1.494 million viewers on the USA Network, significantly up from last week’s 1.341 million viewers. The December 6th episode also posted a 0.44 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic, up from its 0.40 rating from the November 29th episode.
The episode featured a star-studded cast of Chad Gable, Cody Rhodes, The Bloodline, and the transfer window news. Fans also witnessed DIY turn heel against the Motor City Machine Guns, to win the tag-team titles.
TKO President Mark Shapiro Has Addressed The Possibility Of More Two-Night WWE PLEs
Speaking at the UBS Global Media & Communications Conference, TKO President Mark Shapiro discussed the possibility of conducting more two-night PLEs in the future, in addition to WrestleMania and SummerSlam.
Definitely opportunities for that. It’s all a progression, a natural evolution. WrestleMania was a big hit for us to expand. As you look at all these PLEs, depending the partner, I think there is absolutely an opportunity to advance some of them to two days. We’re in a good place with our storylines.
The way it weaves through is WrestleMania is the culmination and then a new season begins. You use Raw, SmackDown, Saturday Night’s Main Event, the PLEs to all weave a long form story around multiple storylines and characters driving that discussion and narrative. It also gives us the opportunity to launch new names and bring back names.”
In other news: Mick Foley has picked his WWE Tribal Chief, and it is not Roman Reigns.
