Tyler Herro has finally made the jump that Miami Heat fans had been waiting for for the last few years. He has improved in pretty much every facet of his game and has been the franchise's best player so far this season by a mile.
Herro now looks like the player who can be a central figure in the Heat's backcourt for years to come. The same cannot be said of Terry Rozier.
The original plan was to have a backcourt of Herro and Rozier. But while the former has excelled, the latter has fallen short of expectations and slipped out of the starting five lately.
Rozier has averaged 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 20 games for the Heat this season.
As a result, it might not be a bad idea for the Heat to bring in a new point guard to team up with Herro in the backcourt while including Rozier as part of the trade package.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report has proposed a trade idea that would see the Heat receive De'Aaron Fox while the Sacramento Kings would get Rozier, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Kel'el Ware and 2030 first-round pick (unprotected).
Swartz wrote: "A starting five of Fox, Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, Haywood Highsmith and Bam Adebayo with Duncan Robinson, Kevin Love, Alec Burks, Pelle Larsson, Josh Richardson and others off the bench would get the Heat back toward the top of the East."
Fox's future with the Kings remains in doubt. He is believed to have turned down a three-year, $165 million extension last offseason.
The Heat would be saying goodbye to a lot of its depth in such a trade. The biggest loss would most probably be Jaquez.
Jovic is someone who has seen a dramatic overturn in his fortunes over the course of the season. He has gone from a starter to someone who is no longer even part of the Heat's rotation.
There were a lot of expectations surrounding Ware, who was drafted by the Heat this year. He was viewed as someone who would solve the team's size issues but the rookie has barely gotten any game time so far this season.
