After their first wire-to-wire loss of the season, the New York Knicks bounced back for a road win over the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 9. Karl-Anthony Towns shined in his return, after missing the previous game with a knee injury. He put up 24 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 36 minutes played.
That includes a go-ahead three-pointer with 6.3 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Knicks. Towns was emotional after he made the shot, yelling to fans and his teammates while clutching the front of his jersey: "New York! New (expletive) York!"
A lot was made of OG Anunoby and RJ Barrett, two players who were traded for each other last season. But it was Towns who stole the moment down the stretch. Still, Barrett made himself known, leading the Raptors with 30 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal in 37 minutes. On the other side, Anunoby was everywhere on the defensive end for New York, logging 3 blocks and 2 steals to go with his 14 points.
Towns and the Knicks improve to 15-9 on the year. Next, they'll face rival guard Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 11 in a Quarter Finals matchup within the NBA Cup tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST.
