Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has hinted that he will field a strong line-up for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Girona.
The Reds have enjoyed a flawless campaign in the competitionso far, securing maximum points from their five group-stage matches.
They made light work of reigning Champions League holders Real Madrid in their most recent continental outing at Anfield, further cementing their status as serious contenders for the European holy grail.
Slot’s side benefited from an unexpected break this past weekend after the Merseyside derby against Evertonwas postponed due to Storm Darragh.
While this downtime could have presented an opportunity to rest key players, Slot haschosen to maintain a consistent line-up.
Speaking ahead of the Girona match, he confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson is fit to start after being spotted in training at Kirkby. However, Diogo Jota did not make the 19-man travelling squad despitebeing pictured in first-team training.
He said in Tuesday’s press conference (viaLiverpoolfc.com):“If we would have played that game, then maybe we would have still played the same team as we are playing tomorrow night.
“But then you never know how that fixture, what people told me can bequite intense, would have led to.
“Now everyone isreally fit because we skipped the game on Saturday, so there’s no reason to rotate from the last match.
“So, we will start like all the other games we’ve started with – witha very good team tomorrow.”
The Reds willbe without several players for the trip to Girona.
Summer signing Federico Chiesa remains sidelined due to illness, while defenders Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, and Kostas Tsimikas are nursing injuries.
Alexis Mac Allister will also miss the trip due to suspension after accumulating three yellow cards in the tournament.
This suspension will also carry over to Saturday’s Premier League game against Fulham following the postponement of the Everton match.
Predicted Liverpool XI:
(4-3-3): Alisson; Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez.
