As one of the biggest clubs in all of Europe, FC Barcelona continues to maintain a certain prestige and pedigree. The Catalan giants, irrespective of their form or financial issues, remain a top club. For this reason, Barcelona hardly finds it difficult to convince players to join.
However, in recent years, their financial issues have indeed managed to restrict their spending and the club’s ability to sign top players. Despite those limitations, however, several top players have been enticed by the possibility of joining La Blaugrana at some point.
One such player that was heavily linked to Barcelona last summer was Nico Williams. The Athletic Club star, who represented Spain during the Euros this year alongside several Barcelona players, was regarded as one of the most exciting talents in the world and it automatically led to a lot of rumors about him possibly joining Barça.

Ultimately, the move did not end up happening due to financial reasons and it was Dani Olmo who ended up wearing the Barça colors for this season. Yet, according to SPORT, the Athletic Club winger’s aspirations remain set on joining the Catalan club and his desire to join them is perhaps even stronger than it was before.
That is because while he does enjoy life at his current Basque club, he wants to aim higher in his career. To do that, he will need to join a side like Barcelona, and he reportedly believes that doing so will improve his trajectory as a player while also giving him many more opportunities to compete for silverware throughout the season.
Unfortunately, however, it seems that Barcelona is not as keen about the €70m-rated Spanish player as it was before. With Robert Lewandowski expected to stay beyond this season and Raphinha having found the form of his life, there is no urgency to sign Nico Williams at the moment.
