Manchester United invested in a new striker over the summer but may still need to land a new goalscorer for Ruben Amorim in 2025.
Anthony Martial’s summer departure left Manchester United with a glaring need – another striker to support Rasmus Hojlund.
In came Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna after the Dutchman impressed under Thiago Motta in Serie A last season.
United paid £36million to sign Zirkzee but he has struggled for goals, scoring just three times in all competitions.
Hojlund has again blown hot and cold too, much like last season, and Amorim may not be entirely settled on his first-choice striker just yet.
January spending is unlikely after United spent around £180million over the summer, but Amorim may have one lofty target in mind.

Viktor Gyokeres hails ex-Manchester United duo
Ever since United appointed Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s replacement, fans have been thinking about United signing Viktor Gyokeres.
United fans wanted Gyokeres after his hat-trick against Manchester City whilst Dimitar Berbatov would love to see Gyokeres arrive.
MORE UNITED STORIES
Amorim reportedly wants Gyokeres at United with the Swede racking up 25 goals in just 22 games this season.
Gyokeres has now spoken to UEFA ahead of Sporting’s Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Tuesday night.
Asked to name his footballing heroes, Gyokeres went for two former Manchester United stars – Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Many strikers grew up loving Ronaldo given his goalscoring feats for United and Real Madrid, whilst Ibrahimovic will have been the ultimate Swedish hero when Gyokeres was growing up.
“The players I looked up to were Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Gyokeres.
“It’s about how they performed on the pitch, they went the extra mile, which impressed me. I wanted to do similar things on the pitch,” he added.
Gyokeres can be United’s next great stirker
Ronaldo racked up 145 goals in 346 games across two spells at United and remains a club hero to this day.
As for Ibrahimovic, he only played 53 times for United but was a superstar in his own right having smashed 28 goals in his debut season, firing United to a double-winning season.
Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic will go down as two of the finest goalscorers to play the game and it’s no surprise that Gyokeres idolised them.
If United make a move for Gyokeres, the hope would be that he can become the next great goalscorer at Old Trafford.
Hojlund and Zirkzee have yet to show signs of becoming that player, Marcus Rashford is better out wide and the aforementioned Martial never lived up to his potential.
Gyokeres is little more polished than Hojlund and Zirkzee and has proven himself as a pure goalscorer – something United really lack in Amorim’s squad.
