More than EUR 2 million have been invested in the reconstruction of the historic building.
The new study center will open on November 21.
The Rector of the University of Latvia, Professor Gundars Bērziņš, pointed out that world-class medical studies are one of the cornerstones of a traditional university, and expressed hope that this investment will result in the training of many talented healthcare professionals.
The project is the reconstruction of the 10th building of the PSKUS, a historic building designed by the prominent Riga architect Reinhold Georg Schmaeling (1840-1917), known for his red brick architectural style, which can be seen in many school, hospital and cultural institution building projects in Riga. While preserving the historical significance of the building, the renovation included a major overhaul, including the roof restoration, the construction of new engineering systems and a complete renovation of the interior, which also includes infrastructure for people with reduced mobility.
The total cost of the project is €2.11 million, including €1.4 million from the LU and €0.79 million from European funds.
