France football star Kylian Mbappe has once again denied allegations of rape against him, saying that he was “not concerned” about it and that his focus was on playing football. In October this year, multiple media outlets had reported that Mbappe was being “investigated for rape” during a recent visit to Stockholm.

The reports said that Mbappe had allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a hotel in Stockholm. Mbappe, however, had slammed the “fake news” at the time and has maintained a similar stance now.

‘I’m not concerned’: Kylian Mbappe

“I was surprised. These are things that happen that you don’t see coming. I didn’t receive anything, no summons. I read the same thing as everyone else. The Swedish government didn’t say anything. I’m not concerned,” Mbappe was quoted as saying by French website Clique.

“It didn’t weigh on me, because I never felt concerned. There’s a lot of noise, but I’ve always had the same intention, which is to concentrate on my job and see how it ends. If justice summons me, I will simply go.

“It wasn’t even a night out. I had five days off, I decided to leave. I was supposed to go somewhere else, but the coach told me to go somewhere less exposed. It’s going well, I’m relaxed. Before leaving, there’s this photo of me leaving the restaurant. There were lots of people ready to welcome me for the departure, lots of journalists…”, the 25-year-old further added.

Mbappe speaks on absence from France team

Mbappe also spoke on his absence from the France football team. Mbappe has not played for the Les Bleus since Euro 2024, where they lost to eventual champions Spain in the semi-final. “I can’t talk about November because it was a decision from the coach (Deschamps) and I’ll get behind what he said. I fully respect his decision because he is the boss. I wanted to go but I can’t say why,” Mbappe told Canal+.

Mbappe stressed on his need for a break after the European championships. “In the NBA (National Basketball Association), they get four months off. We get two weeks. And in the second week, we’re already back to running. It’s not a vacation. I was tired. I wanted to stay because you give everything for the French team but it was exhausting,” he stated.

Mbappe joined reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid after leaving French outfit Paris Saint-Germain after the 2023-24 season. Mbappe has scored 11 goals and assisted twice for the Los Blancos in 21 matches, with his latest goal coming against Girona in the La Liga on 7 December.
