Alisson sends five-word message as he prepares for first Liverpool start in more than two months tonight

Liverpool are back in action after almost a week sat resting and recovering.

The Reds had to sit back and watch the Premier League weekend unfold without them after their game with Everton was postponed on Saturday.

Ultimately, it was not a bad couple of days for Liverpool, as both Arsenal and Manchester City dropped points in the title race.

The cancelled fixture also meant that injured members of the Liverpool squad were forced to miss one less match over the busy December schedule.

Perhaps the biggest bonus in that respect is that Alisson Becker is now ready to return to action.

According to The Athletic, Alisson is set to start Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Girona. And ahead of the game in Spain, the goalkeeper has sent his very own comeback message.

Alisson sends comeback message

Although it is brilliant to have Alisson back after more than two months on the treatment table, the timing is also slightly unfortunate in one way.

Caoimhin Kelleher has been superb while standing in for Alisson.

But as it turns out, his last game in the starting XI – virtually his last act in the starting XI – was the mistake which allowed Fabian Schar to sneak in behind him and equalise for Newcastle last Wednesday.

While that is disappointing for Kelleher, though, it did highlight just what a boost Alisson’s return can be for Arne Slot.

And taking to his Instagram stories – and later shared by Liverpool’s own account – while aboard the plan to Girona on Monday, the Brazilian gave a smile and a message to supporters.

“So happy to be back,” Alisson wrote, beaming at the camera and holding a very full looking gourd of yerba mate. Good to have you back, Ali!

Alisson set to start in Girona

During his press conference on Monday, Slot insinuated that he’s looking to put a strong Liverpool XI out against Girona, despite the Reds’ having already virtually progressed in the Champions League.

Slot has had to rethink his team for Girona after Saturday’s cancellation and may now want to get minutes back in the player’s legs before a big game with Fulham on Saturday.

The goalkeeper coming back in will be the tip of that iceberg, but it’ll be fascinating to see who the Liverpool head coach picks in-front of Alisson.

The defence has not seen any players returning, which means Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas and Conor Bradley are all still missing.

Slot was pleased with Jarell Quansah after the job he did at right-back against Newcastle, though, and it looks likely that the 21-year-old will be asked to go again in Catalonia.

For the rest, we’ll have to wait and see.
