'I’ve been working on that': Jadon Sancho shares what Chelsea's coaching staff have been telling him to do

Jadon Sancho was the man who got Chelsea back into the game in their 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Chelsea got off to a terrible start on the day after finding themselves 2-0 down before the 15th minute.

However, they managed to pull a goal back in the 17th minute through Jadon Sancho, who did some excellent work on the left flank before cutting in and firing past Fraser Forster.

Simon Jordan thought Sancho was “very good” against Tottenham, and the winger has now shared what helped him to score that wonderful goal in north London.

Jadon Sancho shooting more

Sancho’s goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was just his second for Chelsea since joining the club from Manchester United in the summer.

However, scoring more is something that Sancho is working on, with the 24-year-old revealing that Chelsea’s coaches and players have been telling him to be a bit more selfish on the pitch.

“The staff and the players have been telling me to be a bit more selfish in front of goal and shoot when I get in those positions,” Sancho was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official website after the game. “I’ve been working on that, so I’m delighted.

“I know I have a lot of people to prove wrong and I’m working hard every day in training. Once I get my opportunity I just try to show what I can do, so I’m happy that I scored and we got the three points for the team. I’m just taking it game-by-game and hopefully I can continue this form.”

Sancho has also shared Enzo Maresca’s words at half-time, which helped the Blues to turn things around and win all three points.

It was not an easy goal to pull off, but after seeing space open up, Sancho was confident enough to dribble into a shooting position.

On his strike, the Englishman said: “It was a one-v-one and I saw the opportunity to cut inside, then I saw the space opened up and just thought ‘why not?’.

“It’s definitely very satisfying. In training recently I’ve been working on my shooting a bit more, just working on hitting the far corner, so I’m delighted that it came off.”

It was a tough game for Chelsea, and things do not get any easier for Maresca‘s men this weekend. They have another London derby, this time against Brentford, who have been one of the best attacking teams in the Premier League this season.

In fact, only Chelsea have scored more goals than their west London rivals, showing the kind of form that Thomas Frank’s side are currently in.

Team Matches played Goals scored

Chelsea 15 35

Brentford 15 31

Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have been the Bees’ danger men, scoring nine goals each. Chelsea will have to stop the duo if they want to keep the pressure on league leaders Liverpool.
