Real Madrid legend and captain Luka Modric appears to be on the verge of a significant career move.
As reported by Fichajes, the Croatian midfielder has reached an agreement to join Italian club Como next season as a free agent.
This decision marks the likely end of his illustrious tenure at Real Madrid, with the player already informing club president Florentino Perez of his plans.
Modric wants to continue playing
At nearly 40 years of age, Modric, who ends his current contract in 2025, remains confident in his ability to compete at a high level.
While Real Madrid no longer see him as part of their future squad plans, the club has reportedly expressed openness to him continuing in a different role once his playing days are over.

However, Modric, who is also linked with a return to Croatia, is keen to extend his playing career for at least one more season, and Como’s offer has caught his attention for both sporting and personal reasons.
The club, based in the picturesque Lake Como region, offers a desirable lifestyle alongside an intriguing football project.
Como’s prospect
Como’s current situation in Serie A adds a layer of complexity to this potential move. Having recently returned to Italy’s top division, the club is struggling to stay afloat, hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Despite a strong start to the season, a prolonged run of poor results has put their survival hopes in jeopardy. Currently on a nine-match winless streak, Como’s latest draw against Venezia has further compounded their struggles.
Modric is reportedly unwilling to join the team unless they secure their place in Serie A for next season. His potential arrival would not only bring world-class experience but also serve as a statement of ambition for the club.
If Como can turn their fortunes around and remain in Italy’s top flight, signing Modric could significantly enhance their credibility and competitiveness moving forward.
