Everton are monitoring the situation of former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth as they wait for The Friedkin Group to complete a takeover, according to the Sun.
The former Newcastle United chief left the Old Trafford club on Sunday after just five months in charge, and he will not be short of offers in the Premier League, with the Toffees now keen.
Everton’s prospective new owners are in the process of conducting a structural review, which will lead to new appointments including a chief executive and technical director.
They want Ashworth, dubbed ‘one of the top sporting directors in the world’ by Man United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe, in place at the Goodison Park club but would face competition from Arsenal for his services.
The Gunners want a new sporting director after Edu left, and the former Man United man is attracting them too.
Having previously worked with Brighton & Hove Albion, West Bromwich Albion and the English FA, Ashworth brings massive experience to the table and would be a huge appointment for Everton should they land him.
The Blues need someone like that overseeing their recruitment and other key areas which affect what goes on on the pitch.
Everton have battled relegation in each of the last three seasons and are currently 15th in the table after 14 games this term.
The incoming owners are expected to part with director of football Kevin Thelwell and manager Sean Dyche, and they will need the input of an experienced director to help appoint a new boss and recruit players capable of helping them turn into regular challengers for the top-six.

Ashworth fits the bill and he could be open to joining such a club as a new project begins.
