Man City rip up transfer plan07:26

Premier League clubs are ramping up their preparations ahead of the January transfer window ahead of the festive period.

The winter window is expected to be a busy one for several clubs, although some, including Manchester United, will have to wheel and deal if they are to reshape their squad under new head coach, Ruben Amorim. A new sporting director could also be on their agenda in the coming weeks after they parted company with Dan Ashworth.

Arsenal could make a splash in January after deciding against signing an extra forward in the summer. Links to Euro 2024 winner Nico Williams have resurfaced in recent weeks and Barcelona are now seemingly out of the picture.

Liverpool could further boost their title hopes with some astute business to kick off the New Year, but their focus could yet be on retaining the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom will be free to talk to overseas clubs in January if new contracts are not agreed this month.

Ashworth offered Arsenal lifeline

Dan Ashworth's sudden availability is said to have caught the attention of Arsenal in their search for a new sporting director.

A new report from The Sun claims that Ashworth is already attracting interest from elsewhere in the Premier League, namely from Arsenal, who themselves are searching for a new sporting director after Edu decided to resign from said post last month.

The report claims that Ashworth's availability has 'caught the eye' of Richard Garlick, who is leading the recruitment process. Intriguingly, he has worked with Ashworth previously at West Brom and the pair are said to have a good relationship.

Interest from Everton is also outlined as part of the Friedkin Group's attempt to take over the troubled Toffees. They are expected to overhaul the club's structure should they be successful in acquiring the club and Ashworth would seemingly be of interest.

Liverpool eye Robertson replacement

Andy Robertson has seen his game-time increasingly split with Kostas Tsimikas this season. And with the 30-year-old's contract expiring in 18 months time, it appears the Reds are creating a succession plan.

According to Relevo, Liverpool target Milos Kerkez is increasingly likely to leave Bournemouth. The Cherries are already lining up replacements for the Hungary international themselves, such is the confidence that he will move on.

It is said that Kerkez's exit is 'very likely' as long as nothing goes wrong between now and the end of the season. Liverpool will be battling Manchester United for his signature, with the Red Devils also in the market for a left-back.

Arsenal want Joao Pedro

Another attacker Arteta's side are reportedly looking at is Brighton's Joao Pedro and the Gunners are willing to put their money where their mouth is, according to reports.

Spanish website Fichajes has claimed that Arsenal are happy to stump up as much as £54m to prize Pedro away from the Amex to bolster their attacking options.

It adds that Arsenal will be rivalled by Arne Slot's Liverpool - who have a "strong interest" in the Brazilian international, despite already boasting a number of top forwards such as Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

Pedro had a very strong season with the Seagulls last year - netting 20 times from 40 appearances in all competitions but this season he has only managed four strikes from eight games.

One of those goals he scored came against Arsenal this season at the Emirates Stadium, netting the equaliser to frustrate Arteta in a 1-1 draw.

“If there’s any s*** players that are there, and the ones that have either been there too long and the ones that just ain’t good enough, be as brutal as they’ve been. Get them out quick. And I hope they’re like that.”

Mourinho 'at risk of sack'

Premier League-winning manager Jose Mourinho is under pressure at Fenerbahce and could even be just one game from the sack, according to Diario AS (via Football Italia).

While we'll take the reports with a pinch of salt, the Portuguese is said to be in trouble going into Thursday's Europa League game against Athletic Club.

A win in midweek could ease the pressure, though, while keeping alive Fener's chances of marching straight into the Europa League round of 16 with a top-eight finish in the league phase.
