The Dallas Cowboys dropped a 27-20 game to the Cincinnati Bengals at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Monday Night that nearly put the final nail in Mike McCarthy's team's playoff coffin.
The game was impacted by a controversial rule that saw Cincinnati receive possession after a blocked punt attempt by the Cowboys that resulted in a Dallas player touching the ball.
Afterward, one of Dallas' most talented defenders, cornerback Jourdan Lewis, could not contain his frustration with what went down in 'Jerryworld.'
"That is a dumb (expletive) rule honestly," Lewis said on his X account in a post that was viewed over 8,400 times as of Monday night.
The play went viral as the Cowboys cornerback muffed the punt block and gave the ball back to Dallas' AFC North opponents.
"True. But it's also a rule that everyone on that special teams unit should know," one fan said in response to Lewis' criticism.
"Feel bad for Amani," another fan said of Amani Oruwariye, who made the mistake. "Some fans are going to vilify him."
Lewis decided to stand up for the Cowboys special teamer with comments made to DallasCowboys.com.
"Big plays happen when everybody sees it," Lewis said.
"We have to stay with him and keep encouraging him. We don't want that moment to define him. We have to stay behind him. That's just football. Some things roll your way and some things don't. I can't blame him trying to make a play."
