'Really good': Pundit wowed by £25m Nottingham Forest star who Man United couldn’t handle

Nottingham Forest ended 30 years of hurt by finally getting another win at Old Trafford over the weekend.

In fairness, with Forest languishing in the EFL for 23 years prior to 2022, games between Forest and United haven’t been regular fixtures on the calendar over the years.

Stan Collymore praised Forest for their win on Saturday and he scored for the Reds the last time they won at Old Trafford in 1994.

The class of 2024 are inspired by Nuno Espirito Santo and Jamie Redknapp claimed nobody is ridiculing him anymore.

Chris Wood is now the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League era and he’s a man in fine form.

Earlier this season, Shay Given gave Wood a new nickname and his goalscoring ratio is showing no signs of letting up.

There were other strong performers at Old Trafford on Saturday though and for an important Forest player, it was a welcome return to form.

Darren Fletcher hails Morgan Gibbs-White after Forest beat Manchester United

Gibbs-White joined Forest for £25 million from Wolves in the summer of 2022 and he’s been proved a brilliant addition to the ranks.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Despite his quality, Gibbs-White has come under scrutiny of late over a lack of goals and assists.

In his heart of hearts, he knows he needs to add more to both of those tallies and on Saturday he scored and assisted at Old Trafford.

Fletcher is the chief commentator on TNT Sports but at the weekend he covers the Football Daily podcast on BBC Sport.

He raved about Gibbs-White for his showing and felt Forest richly deserved their victory over United – with the 24-year-old in fine fettle.

He said: “Nuno and his players deserve a tremendous amount of credit. They’ve got a system that works away, they had a spell after HT where they might have got three or four, they were really flowing, Gibbs-White had a really good game.”

Espirito Santo has to keep picking Gibbs-White

Make no bones about it, Andre Onana has to save the effort from Gibbs-White on Saturday but still it’s another goal for his tally.

The Forest man should shoot more often because when he does connect he can really strike them well.

Goals and assists are what will define a number 10 and Gibbs-White knows that he has to get involved a little bit more often in that sense.

With the Forest vice-captain, it’s never through a lack of trying though and supporters do understand that he brings that trait to the team in bucket loads.

Espirito Santo knows what Gibbs-White brings to the team and although consistency has sometimes been an issue, it’s important that he keeps getting picked by the head coach.
