Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has urged his teammates to stay resilient following their frustrating 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday. The Gunners were aiming to capitalise on Liverpool’s absence from the weekend’s fixtures, as Storm Darragh postponed the Merseyside derby against Everton.

A win would have brought Arsenal within four points of league leaders Liverpool, but Raul Jimenez’s early strike for Fulham put Mikel Arteta’s men on the back foot. William Saliba levelled the score in the second half with a header from a corner, and Bukayo Saka thought he had secured a dramatic winner late on. However, VAR ruled out the goal due to an offside call against Gabriel Martinelli in the buildup.

The result leaves Arsenal in third place in the Premier League, six points behind Liverpool after 15 matches. Chelsea’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Tottenham later on Sunday compounded Arsenal’s frustrations, pushing them further down the table.

Reacting to the draw, Jorginho took to Instagram to express his determination. “Tough ground to win, but we keep pushing. Thank you for the amazing support as always,” the Italian international wrote. Jorginho was substituted in the 74th minute, making way for Mikel Merino.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Mikel Arteta praised Fulham’s defensive organisation and acknowledged the challenges of the Premier League. “They are really well organised. This is football. When we played them at home last year, the margin was huge for us, but they scored two goals from three or four chances. That’s the quality of every opposition. You cannot cry about it,” he said.

Arteta also reflected on the missed opportunity to close the gap on Liverpool. “We really wanted it. We had good momentum, and it was a crucial moment for us to go for it. We certainly tried and were so close to doing it. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to achieve it,” he added.

The Gunners now turn their attention to a midweek Champions League clash against Monaco before resuming their domestic campaign next weekend against Everton. With the title race heating up, Arsenal will be eager to regain ground on Liverpool and Chelsea in their pursuit of Premier League glory.
