During Tuesday's episode of Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid delivered some breaking news that had developed over the past few hours. The ITV presenter confirmed that a 26-year-old man has been charged with the murder of health insurance company CEO Brian Thompson in America.
The executive was shot in New York last week, sparking a massive search for the perpetrator. Providing further details, Richard Madeley informed viewers: "The suspect is 26 year old Luigi Mangione. He was arrested at a McDonald's restaurant nearly 300 miles away from the crime scene."
Richard then passed the segment to Good Morning Britain's North American correspondent Noel Phillips, who was broadcasting live from New York. Richard asked: "Noel, this was an incredibly dramatic arrest, wasn't it? What more can we learn about the man?"

Noel told the two hosts that this murder has gripped the attention of people across America. He stated: "In the last two hours or so, we've seen people arriving here and taking photographs and that's because behind me is the exact spot where Brian Thompson was shot dead in broad daylight."
"Police say the firearm was found on the suspect, which they believe was the very same weapon used here. He also had a handwritten manifesto expressing his hatred and anger towards health insurance companies," reports the Mirror.
The ITV correspondent has shared that those close to the suspect are struggling to come to terms with the situation, following a statement released by his family this morning. Nino Mangione took to Twitter, stating: "We only know what we have read in the media.

"Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi's arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson, and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news. The Mangione Family."
ITV viewers were then shown video footage of Luigi being escorted into a courthouse overnight. The 26-year-old is facing charges for the murder of Brian Thompson, a father of two and CEO, who was tragically killed last Wednesday in Manhattan.
It was highlighted to Good Morning Britain's audience that Luigi hails from an affluent background and is an Ivy League graduate.
Noel also mentioned: "He (Luigi) was wearing a face mask while eating breakfast inside this Mcdonald's in Pennsylvania when a customer became suspicious and reported him to an employee who then tipped off the police."
