Chris Sutton reacts after hearing Newcastle boss Eddie Howe backed to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Tottenham lost 4-3 to Chelsea at the weekend to make it three without a win in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou isn’t under serious pressure at the moment, but there’s an argument to make that Postecoglou should be sacked.

Indeed, Tottenham are firmly in mid-table after 15 games, and things aren’t going well for the Australian right now.

Of course, if Postecoglou were to be sacked, Spurs will need to find a replacement.

Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has been fielding calls from fans, and one supporter suggested that Eddie Howe should replace Postecoglou.

Sutton has always been a big fan of Postecoglou, and he shot down the idea of Howe replacing the Spurs boss, pointing out that Newcastle are indeed lower in the table than Tottenham.

Chris Sutton reacts after Eddie Howe to Tottenham suggestion

Sutton and the caller spoke about the idea of Howe coming to Tottenham.

Sutton laughed off this idea, noting that Spurs are actually higher than Newcastle in the league.

“But I don’t know who we’re going to get. If Eddie Howe leaves Newcastle, you know what,” The caller said.

“Hang on a minute. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Eddie Howe? so Where are Newcastle in the table” Sutton asked.

“No, they’re below you in the table, but you want Eddie Howe? No, you want Ange out. You want the manager of a team who are behind them in the table in, right?”

Eddie Howe compared to Ange Postecoglou

Howe would be an interesting replacement for Postecoglou at Spurs.

Howe has worked wonders with Newcastle in recent years, and while things haven’t quite gone to plan over the past 18 months, it must be noted that the Magpies have had a litany of injury problems during that time.

It’s certainly interesting to compare Howe and Postecoglou’s stats at their respective clubs.

Wins 70 32

Draws 32 9

Losses 41 22

Win percentage 49% 51%

Highest finish 4th 5th

Both men have a very similar record, but Howe did take over this Newcastle team when they were rock bottom of the Premier League, so it has to be said the job he has done has been much more impressive.

Newcastle have struggled this season though, and Howe is under a bit of pressure at St James’ Park.

If Howe does end up leaving Newcastle, perhaps Spurs would want to take a look at him. After all, he knows Dominic Solanke very well from his time at Bournemouth.
