Jarrod Bowen’s winning goal for West Ham United against Wolves on Monday was “beautiful”, Ally McCoist has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (10 December, 6:11am), McCoist hailed the spell in which Bowen grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and curled home the winner from just inside the box.

Picking up the ball outside the area, Bowen stepped inside the challenge of Goncalo Guedes and steered a low strike through a crowd and into the far corner, giving the Hammers a desperately needed 2-1 win.

McCoist said to Jeff Stelling: “I thought the 10 minutes of Jarrod Bowen – man alive, wasn’t he magic?

“I thought the goal – you saw my reaction to the goal – was superb.

“Beautiful. He buys the dummy, comes back in, and then it’s actually how quickly after he comes back inside to get it back out to his left foot, and hit it early – beautiful goal.”

Jarrod Bowen rises to the challenge for West Ham once again

A 2-1 win over his former employers, and a team who are also under significant pressure this season, will certainly help to ease the scrutiny on Julen Lopetegui for the time being at least.

While his tactical setup and lack of an evident style of play still leaves a lot to be desired, he certainly has a safe bet in the form of Bowen, who continues to get the Irons out of trouble.

The England forward – who netted his first Three Lions goal in the most recent international break – stands above all others as the Hammers’ talisman and has already produced big moments this season.

Of the five Premier League wins recorded by Lopetegui’s side so far this season, Bowen has scored in four, with his last two against Manchester United and Wolves both being the game-deciding goals.

His defining moment in claret and blue will forever be his winner in the 2023 Europa Conference League Final, but Bowen is always the go-to man West Ham turn to whenever they’re in trouble.
