Breaking: Lopetegui Safe for now

Claret & Hugh have spoken to a top source at the London Stadium within the past hour, and they’ve confirmed that Julen Lopetegui is “safe for now, but things must improve.”

Yes, Lopetegui has won another ‘El Sackico’—or whatever it’s called—and the Hammers now face Bournemouth in a week’s time. The big question is whether we’re back to another three-game reset on Lopetegui’s West Ham tenure, or if the tricky away game against the Cherries is also a must-win.

Reading between the lines, I suspect a loss against Bournemouth would be tolerated but if it is followed up by another defeat against Brighton, then what?

Undoubtedly, the Hammers created a large number of chances against Wolves, just as we did in the previous game against Leicester City. It could be argued there are green shoots of improvement emerging. However, it’s worth noting that the Midlander’s matched our 19 shots.

On another day, West Ham could have scored more, as Mohammed Kudus’s two disallowed strikes indicate. However, it could also be argued that a stronger side than Wolves would have capitalised on nearly 20 chances and put at least a couple in the net.

I’ve no doubt the coming week at the West Ham training ground will be a less tense environment. But with managerial replacements still lurking in the background, it’s hard to say whether anything has truly changed in the Hammers’ soap opera.
