Golden Nuggets: Bring on the Rams

Kyle Shanahan reflects on 49ers’ Week 14 win vs. Bears, provides injury updates

“San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters during a conference call on Monday, the day after the team’s 38-13 win over the Chicago Bears. Here’s everything he said.”

Branch: Guerendo injury may force 49ers to dig even deeper on running back depth chart (paywall)

“If Guerendo is sidelined, Taylor could share backfield duties with wide receiver Deebo Samuel and Ke’Shawn Vaughn, a 27-year-old who has four years of experience with the Buccaneers. Samuel had excelled when moonlighting at running back in previous seasons, averaging 6.3 yards on 160 carries, but he’s averaging 2.9 yards on 32 attempts in 2024. The 49ers also have Israel Abanikanda, a 2023 fifth-round pick, whom they claimed off waivers from the Jets last week.

“You’ve always got to have three (running backs) in the building in case situations like this happen,” Shanahan said. “And hopefully it doesn’t have to come to that, but if it does, we expect (Abanikanda) to be ready.”

49ers minutia minute: Isaac Guerendo iffy for Thursday; who’s the next man up? (paywall)

“One of the themes this season has been how long Purdy has been holding onto the ball before his throws — more than 3 seconds, one of the longest durations of any starting quarterback. On Sunday, his time-to-throw stat was 2.87 seconds, per Next Gen Stats, which was in the middle of the pack.”

49ers practice and media schedule: Preparing for the Week 15 matchup vs. Rams

“The San Francisco 49ers will hold one full practice this week as they prepare for their Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.”

49ers injury report: Guerendo foot sprain jeopardizes status vs. Rams

“There’s a chance,” Shanahan said of Greenlaw returning to action to face the Rams. “I haven’t talked to him, yet. So we’ll see when he gets in here tomorrow how he’s feeling, and how practice goes Tuesday and Wednesday, and make our decision then.”

Defensive end Nick Bosa (hip and oblique) and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) missed their third consecutive games on Sunday. They will be evaluated throughout the week to determine whether they can play Thursday night, Shanahan said.”

49ers Injuries: Updates on Guerendo, Greenlaw, others

“Kyle Shanahan indicated that Guerendo’s status will be monitored throughout the next few days. There’s no clear sign whether he’ll play or not against the Rams Thursday.

Elsewhere, Ben Bartch is likely done for the rest of the season after suffering a high ankle sprain. He is expected to be placed on injured reserve. The 49ers will get starting left guard Aaron Banks back, however. He cleared concussion protocol.”
